After not releasing any music for 6 years since “Out of the Wasteland”, Lifehouse has made a comeback. They released five singles in 2021, them being Dragonflies, Static, En Rogue, Cut & Run and Chester Copperpot. They’re back with a new voice, new visions, and a new album.
Lifehouse can be identified as rock, alternative, or indie. Their past music from the early 2000’s has mostly fallen under the rock category, but the new music is leaning more towards indie.
Modern day Lifehouse is truly special. It isn’t completely conformed to what’s new and hip because they didn’t let go of the 1996-2015 Lifehouse. The Lifehouse I know and love is still in there, just in a different way; and I’m here for it.
We started off strong with the release of Cut & Run on April 2nd, 2021. When I saw this, I had to double check and make sure it wasn’t still April Fools’ Day. As expected, Lifehouse delivered what me and so many other fans have been dreaming of.
All five singles give off this distinct vibe. It makes me feel like dancing in front of a bonfire on the beach or dancing in the rain in an empty parking lot under the streetlights. It almost takes me back to how I imagine the 60s would feel with hippies roaming the Earth.
Of the fantastic five singles, it’s hard to pick a favorite. However, Cut & Run really resonates with me on a personal level. I have a very adventurous soul, and this song makes me want to drop everything and roadtrip to California, or go get a new tattoo.
The second verse says, “We were trying to find our sea legs, Tidal waves crashing on the shores in our heads, Can't ever worry about the 'he said, she said' Drowning out all the noise of all that we've read.” This verse in itself makes me feel seen, like someone understands what I’m feeling. As a freshman in college, I feel like I’m just trying to find my sea legs and discover myself in this big, big world.
Of all pleasant surprises in life, new music from a band gone rogue is at the top of the list. Especially when the product is as fulfilling as what Lifehouse has produced. Overall, I’m such a happy fan and I can’t wait to see what else comes from their rebirthing.
